During the FUTA 40th Anniversary programmes, DRP-WACS organized a public lecture and workshop on climate change, media chat on FUTA radio, television and documentary. We also arranged WASCAL facility tour for secondary school students. On Wednesday 17th November, 2021, we had a well-advertised and publicized “WASCAL OPEN DAY”. Permanent Secretaries of Ministries of Environment, Education, Urban Planning & Physical Development, Agriculture and Natural Resources were present. Also, the General Manager Ondo State Waste Management Authority and Ondo State Water Corporation were in attendance. The principals and students from several secondary schools in Ondo State were also in attendance. The WASCAL Director of Capacity Building, Prof. Daouda Kone made opening remarks on behalf of the Executive Director, Dr. Moumini Savadogo. The Vice-Chancellor represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Philip Oguntunde also made remarks on the relevance and impact of the WASCAL programme.

The main lecture titled “Present-Day and Future Rainfall Trends in West Africa” was delivered by Prof. Dr. Andreas Fink of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany. The Director of DRP-WACS, FUTA (Prof. Debo Adeyewa) and his Deputy (Dr. Ife Balogun), also made presentations on “DRP-WACS in Perspective: Roles and Prospects in the Development of Climate Change Science in West Africa”. Apart from the top dignitaries from the civil service, the event was well attended by the principal officers (Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, Librarian, Directors, etc.) and other staff and students of the university. It is worthy of note that the DRP-WACS Alumni and Batch 4 set were physically represented and featured as anchors on the programme. Other Batch 4 students, Alumni and several researchers from different parts of the world joined the workshop virtually through Zoom. Some of the pictures of the event are presented below.
